Week 2

Today is starting Maddie’s 2nd week at home since her surgery.  She is still on pain medication which makes her sleepy but she is getting better every day.  She even attempted to run up the stairs the other day (we stopped her of course, the doc says not yet!) She loves to lay outside so we try to spend some time out there each day.  The tough part is making her lay still. She wants to be up and exploring everything (Don’t worry Maddie you will be able to do that soon!)  Good thing bed rest is only for a few more days! She will also get her stitches out on Wednesday, its a big day! Wish us luck!

Hello and Welcome to Maddie’s blog!

Maddie is our 5 month old lab/pit mix who we rescued. She is absolutely adorable and such a great puppy. Unfortunately she had to have her rear leg amputated after being hit by a car. Its been a rough few weeks but each day she gets stronger and stronger and her progress is motivational.  When we first brought her to the hospital the doctor was not sure if she would survive the night but she did and she got stronger and stronger! He said that a lot of dogs come to him in better shape than our girl and just give up.  He was amazed by her drive to stay alive and we are excited to allow her to continue to live a healthy and happy life. She is still getting used to only having three legs. We are trying our best to help her adjust. If anyone would like to share helpful tips or their most important lessons, we would greatly appreciate it.  I must say that I am already floored by the outpouring of support that we have received from the members of this website. It is truly inspirational and makes me feel so confident that Maddie will live a long and happy life 3 legged life.  Here are some pictures of her.. Being that she is still on bed rest I do not have any good pictures of her up and around. I will update soon.
